2010 Centenary of Powered Flight Australian $1 PNC
Struck by The Perth mint as a commemorative for the Australia Post's latest stamp and coin cover celebrating the centenary of powered flight in Australia.
Struck from Aluminium bronze, the coin features famous escapologist Harry Houdini's sustained flight while on tour in Australia in 1910. Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin is housed in a full colour envelope along with a $2.10 commemorative Australia Post stamp.
The postmark contains the words FIRST DAY OF ISSUE 9 MARCH 2010 DIGGERS REST VICTORIA 3427.
The coin features a representation of Houdini's Voisin bi-plane, which he flew successfully at Diggers Rest, near Melbourne, 100 years ago in March.
Featuring not only the Perth Mint's 'P' Mintmark but also the inscription AUSTRALIAN CENTENARY OF FLIGHT DIGGERS REST 18th MARCH 1910.
