2022 Australian Signals Directorate 75th Anniversary 50c UNC Coin

The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) protects Australia from global threats by revealing foreign secrets and protecting our own.

The Royal Australian Mint commemorates the 75th anniversary of the ASD with this striking 2022 50C Uncirculated Coin, Embedded in the coin design are six coded messages.

Do you have what it takes to crack the Codes and discover their secrets? The ASD had its beginnings during the World War ll, when Australian military personnel were called on to intercept and decode Japanese radio signals as part of the South-West Pacific campaign lead by General MacArthur.

After the war, the Australian government created the Defense Signals Bureau to continue the work of exploiting foreign Communications, as well as providing communications security in the armed services and government departments.

During the intervening decades the ASD went through many iterations and name changes as it adapted and evolved to the security needs of the nation. Finally in May 2013 the title Australian Signals Directorate was chosen to reflect its whole-of-government role in supporting Australia's national security.

As the ASD celebrates seventy-five years of service and protection, they also look towards the future as Australia's cyber protectors in the digital age.
