Remembrance Day marks the anniversary of the armistice reached on 11 November 1918, which marked the end of conflict on the Western Front and, soon after, the end of the Great War.

Initially named Armistice Day, this commemoration was renamed Remembrance Day after World War II, to honour those killed and wounded in all theatres of war.

Each year, at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, one minutes silence is observed to honour those killed and wounded during war.

The key symbol of Remembrance Day is the Flanders poppy, which gained resonance for being among the first plants to bloom on the battlefields of northern France and Belgium during the Great War.

For soldiers, the red petals represented the blood of fellow soldiers split so far from home. The symbol was popularised through surgeon Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae's (1972-1918) poem " In Flanders Fields".

This limited edition PNC features the Royal Australian Mint $5 Red Poppy coin along with an Australia Post 60c stamp featuring a lone buglar.

Mintage: 15,000
