To celebrate the opening of the Parliament House on 9th May 1988, the Royal Australian Mint struck Australia's first $5 coin.
This coin features the architectural achievement of the New Parliament House. The design presented by Mitchell/Giurgola/Thorp was selected by the Parliament House Construction Authority.
