2002 Queen Elizabeth Accession 50c PNC

The 2002 Elizabeth II Accession 50 cent coin and two Queen Elizabeth stamps - $2.45 and 45c were jointly issued by Australia Post and the Royal Australian Mint.

The set commemorates the 50th anniversary of Accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne of England and the Commonwealth. The postage stamps have been cancelled with a specially prepared ink rendition of St. Edward's Crown with the wording 'First Day of Issue 6 February 2002 Elizabeth SA 5112'.

"To mark the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II Accession or Golden Jubilee a new design was released by the Royal Australian Mint in 2002. This coin was originally intended to circulate but this decision was overruled after advice from the Treasury that there were enough 50 cent pieces already in circulation."
