2010 Burke and Will 150 Years $1 PNC
Robert O’Hara Burke and William John Wills were the first European settlers to cross the Australian continent from south to north.
Their remarkable accomplishment turned to tragedy, when on the return leg, both men perished.
This Stamp and Coin Cover issued by Australia Post marks the 150th Anniversary of Burke and Wills’ intrepid expedition, which left Melbourne for the Gulf of Carpenteria in August 1860.
This PNC features a special commemorative $1 coin struck by The Perth Mint together with a commemorative 60c Australia Post Stamp postmarked from Parkville 3rd August 2010.
Each coin is mounted in a card depicting ‘The exploring party coming upon an encampment of natives, an oil painting by Henricus Leonardus van den Houten’, and features an illustrated envelope.
