2013 Australian Bush Babies Echidna $1 PNC

The aptly named Yellow-billed Kingfisher (Syma torotoro) has an olive-grey back and wings, and a golden head and shoulders, with black spots towards the back of the neck.

Its range in Australia is limited to the northern tip of Cape York Peninsula, where the remoteness and inaccessibility make sightings relatively rare and so knowledge about its behaviour fairly sketchy.

It departs Cape York for New Guinea during the dry season, returning to breed at the onset of the wet season.

It nests in the arboreal mounds created by termites, constructing its nest just prior to breeding.
