2015 Anzac Centenary $1 'S' Sydney Counterstamp

Each year The Royal Australian Mint introduces a unique theme as the figurehead for the Mint’s gallery press and mintmark collection. This year’s Anzac Centenary theme, featuring one of the most moving designs to date, is available in an ‘S’ for Sydney Counterstamp coin from the show mobile press.

Most of the men recruited into the Australian Imperial Force at the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914, were sent to Egypt. Later they’d face the threat which the Ottoman Empire (Turkey) posed to the Commonwealth war interest. After four and a half months of training near Cairo, the Australians departed for the Gallipoli peninsula together with troops from New Zealand, Britain and France.
