2025 Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle 1oz Silver Coloured Coin

Named for its long, distinctively shaped tail, the wedge-tailed eagle is Australia’s largest bird of prey and one of the biggest eagles in the world. With an impressive wingspan of up to 2.5 metres, it can also be recognised by its powerful legs which are feathered all the way to its feet.

The Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle 10th Anniversary 2025 1oz Silver Coloured Coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 99.99% pure silver and issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

This coin has a maximum mintage of 2,500.

DESIGN

Sculpted for The Perth Mint by renowned US engraver, John M. Mercanti, the coin's reverse portrays the wedge tailed eagle with outstretched wings. Reflecting its formidable hunting skll, the artistry highlights the bird's large and superbly effective eyes and a large, hooked beak. As well as the inscription 'AUSTRALIAN WEDGE- TAILED EAGLE' and The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark, the reverse also includes the coin's weight, fineness and its 2025 year-date.

John- M. Mercanti is t the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint and has produced more coin and medal designs than any other employee in the organisation's history:

The obverse depicts the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the monetary denomination.

Each coin’s reverse includes a security feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter within the design. It is only detectable under a magnifying glass.
