2026 Year of the Horse 1oz Silver Proof Coloured Coin
Highlighting the seventh animal in the Chinese lunar calendar, this silver proof three-coin set is a remarkable tribute to the lunar hirse and represents the very best in minting excellence and design.
According to Chinese tradition, the emperor held a race to determine who should occupy the 12 positions in the lunar calendar. Just as the horse neared the finish line, a snake startled it, but the resilient horse still secured seventh place.
Those born under the sign of the Chinese Lunar Horse in 2026, 2014, 2002, 1990 and every 12th preceding year are said to be independent, charismatic and love a sense of adventure. Being passionate and spirited, they are gifted with natural charm and an ability to inspire others.
DESIGN
The coin’s reverse portrays a coiled snake on the ground beneath hanging leaves. Included in the design is the Chinese character for ‘Horse', the inscription ‘Horse 2026’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The coin’s obverse bears the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, as well as the weight, fineness, and the monetary denomination.
PRESENTATION
The coin is housed in a classic display case with a clear lid decorated with a silver geometric design. The case is packaged in a beautifully illustrated shipper portraying the story of how the dragon became an animal of the zodiac and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
The shippers of future animals in the Lunar Series III will, when arrayed together, form a diorama depicting the ancient myth of The Great Race, which tells how the zodiac came into being.
