2026 Year of the Horse Quadrant 1oz Silver Proof Four-Coin Set
Lunar Year of the Horse
This remarkable release consists of four legal tender 1oz silver proof pieces that fits together to form a circle with a square in the centre, reminiscent of the first currency of the Chinese empire. These ‘ban liang’ coins were first cast during the Qin Dynasty around 200BCE.
The Horse is significant in traditional Chinese culture as one of 12 animals that participated in the Emperor’s Great Race, held to determine the order of their appearance in the lunar calendar. In pursuit of the fifth placed dragon, the free-spirited horse galloped towards the finish line with determination. In a sudden twist, the horse was startled by the snake who emerged from hiding under its hoof causing it to lurch back. Despite the setback, the resilient horse claimed seventh place.
Those born under the sign of the Chinese Lunar Horse in 2026, 2014, 2002, 1990 and every 12th preceding year are said to be independent, charismatic and love a sense of adventure. Being passionate and spirited, they are gifted with natural charm and an ability to inspire others.
Each 1oz silver proof piece celebrates the Year of the Horse:
- The top coin depicts a white Friesian horse with a brown mane, raising its front hooves in a powerful stance.
- The right-hand coin depicts a chestnut-coloured horse galloping along a country path.
- The bottom coin depicts a Palomino horse and her foal facing each other, both distinguished by golden coats and white manes.
- The left-hand coin depicts a dark bay horse with a black mane, standing on rocky terrain in the countryside.
